ABOUT NYOF
Overview
New York Opera Forum was founded by Richard Nechamkin in 1983 to give classically trained singers the opportunity to learn and perform standard operatic repertoire in the original languages.
We work with singers on all levels, from student to professional, providing quality training and performance opportunities for a reasonable fee.
Complete operas are performed in concert with piano accompaniment, scenes programs are either in concert or staged with minimal props and costumes, and occasional showcase and lieder recitals are presented.
Participation Information
The fee for roles is between $100 and $325, depending on the role and the opera. Roles are triple cast when possible. When you accept a role, 1/2 of the fee is due immediately to hold your place in the workshop, and is non-refundable unless the workshop is cancelled.
Singers get two hours of private coaching and at least four weeks of rehearsal, one full dress rehearsal and at least two performances. Many of our performances are free to the public; some have a $10 admission fee.
Because the rehearsal period is rather short, we expect singers to do basic musical preparation before ensemble work begins.
Booking Information
The group is available for private or public performances in the New York metropolitan area. For more information or an audition please call (212) 865-6786.
